Kitty’s Trio – 23rd September

Our first of the autumn season is on Sunday 23rd September and features Kitty’s Trio.

Kitty (Beverley Gough) performed for us last year with her trio. They play a mix of tailored swing and jazz – including classic jazz standards and original compositions. From Ella Fitzgerald to Nina Simone, their repertoire is wide and engaging, yet always with a trick or two up their sleeves.

A great way to start a new season, this is also our contribution to Tenby Arts Festival.

Hot Club Gallois – 22nd July

Hot Club Gallois are a dynamic 4-piece gypsy-jazz band based in South Wales playing the hottest picks of the Swing Era. Their irresistible mix of fiery violin, lyrical vocals, virtuosic guitar and stomping bass has thrilled audiences around the British Isles and is guaranteed to get you sizzling!

Their set contains Django Reinhardt classics (such as Minor Swing, Nuages, I’ll See You In My Dreams), swing-flavoured jazz standards (Night & Day, Puttin’ On The Ritz, Oh, Lady Be Good!) and some Hot Club Gallois originals. From gypsy to jitterbug, ballads to bossa and bolero, Hot Club Gallois will transport you and your guests to the swirling dance halls and gypsy camps of Paris in the 1930s and 40s.

Moonshine Boulevard – 24th June

Ron King (trumpet),

Tudor (trombone),

Chris Ryan (sax),

Peter Berry (bass),

Keith Hall (guitar)

Dixieland / Swing or Trad Jazz to some, Good Time Jazz to others, good ol’ jazz to all: come and enjoy!

The Maddi Stimpson Quartet – 20th May

Featuring mostly the manouche (gypsy jazz) sound made famous by the great Django Reinhardt, and bluegrass and country swing made famous by Chet Atkins, Tony Rice and Doc Watson, the band’s set will also include music from the bebop and jazz of Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong, Dave Brubeck and Wes Montgomery. Some journey!

The band is:-
Madi Stimpson guitar & vocals
Ken Moore guitar, sax & harmonica
Marko Miletic double bass
Geoff Walker sax

If you haven’t caught one of Maddi’s previous ‘grunge’ gypsy jazz gigs, this is a must  see. If you have, you’ll be coming anyway. But he’s never brought his quartet to us before, so we’re looking forward to this BIG TIME.

The Gary Phillips / Dave Cottle Trio – 22nd April

What can one say about this trio from Swansea heaven?

Dave is the keyboard wizard behind Swansea Jazzland and the Dave Cottle Trio, playing for two decades plus.

Gary is the guitar genius behind not only the Gary Phillips Trio but also The Amigos, gypsy jazz champions of West Wales.

Paul Smith has, quite simply, been playing drums for ever.

A jazz pedigree unsurpassed is coming this way, so catch it!

Duski – 18th March

Duski is the coming together of Wales’ finest improvising musicians. Their original material has been described as ‘Progressive jazz at its best’ (Aberjazz) and ‘A refreshing taste of ambient grooved out jazz’.

This tour sees Duski tackle the great American standards with their own approach.
