New Moonshine Boulevard – 19th November

Tudor Thomas and his friends will be playing brass, strings and enough numbers to tire out your tapping toes.

The ‘new’ band features:-
Bill Ridley – trumpet
Peter Berry – string bass
Tudor Thomas – trombone
Vic Partridge – banjo & guitar
Andy Leggett – clarinet & saxophones

Dixieland, Swing or Trad Jazz, whatever you want to call it, they’re coming (‘though not quite from New Orleans).

The John Gibbon Trio – 8th October

John brings his trio to play at our next Jazz Lunch, together with his myriad, humourful tales of musicians over the 50 years he’s been playing (and currently celebrating).

The trio will feature:-

Glen Manby (Sax),

John-Paul Gard (Keyboard),

John Gibbon (drums)

Regulars of Narberth Jazz Club, we’ve borrowed them for a change of West Wales venues. They’ll be playing tunes by Gershwin, Porter, Herbie Hancock and many others from the Great American Songbook.

John is celebrating 50 years of playing, and a little 70th birthday year, so do come along to join his party.

New Orleans Hot Potatoes – 10th September

The ‘Potatoes’ bring a wealth of jazz experience to their lively, characterful version of Traditional New Orleans Revival Jazz.

Some of the most resolute of South Wales’s jazz professionals, they are: John Scantlebury (Sax, Clarinet & Vocals), Gwyn Lewis (Cornet & Vocals), Sarah Thatcher (Guitar & Banjo) and Spike Kennedy (Double Bass).

We just adore the honest, slightly grungey, so atmospheric tunes this band manufactures out of almost nowhere. Not to be missed if you like ‘trad jazz with style’.

Afternoon in Paris – 13th August

With roots in Hot Club, a myriad of other influences, including Swing, Latin, Gypsy, Bebop and some exclusive originals, flavours the expansive sets this band produce. Virtuosic guitar, and a bouncing rhythm section are fronted by clarinet, bass clarinet and vocals in several European languages (including Welsh!) and are all delivered with a heartfelt and highly entertaining joie de vivre.

The band is: Susanna Warrenclarinets and vocals; Jeremy Younglead guitar; Nick Kacaldouble bass; Paul Smithdrums

Their unique, eclectic sound will transport you through the smoky jazz clubs of 1930s Paris and Hamburg to the grand cafés of Europe, South America and, best of all, Tenby!

Dick Hamer’s Jazz Passengers feat. Jenny Jones on vocals – 9th July

Jazz Passengers was put together by Dick Hamer as a vehicle for him to write some arrangements for a medium size ensemble, designed to have a wide ranging appeal – to all those those who love good melodies, as well as great solos, played by a fine group of  players. This type of group is rare these days – well crafted arrangements, quality vocals and great soloists, all wrapped up in a professionally presented seven piece.

They are: Dick Hamer (saxes, flute); Gethin Liddington (trumpet, flugelhorn); Phil Jarvis (trombone); Richard West (piano); Ashley John Long (bass); Paul Sheppard (drums); and featuring Jenny Jones on vocals.

Their aim is, “satisfaction and fun for the musicians, great entertainment for the audience”.

The Keith Marshall Quartet with Sarah Benbow – 14th May

Although a first for us, nearly all this quartet have played for us as members of different bands, the exception being Keith himself! Without any doubt, they all have serious pedigree:-

Keith Marshall – Piano

Chris Ryan – Alto/Tenor/Soprano Saxes & Clarinet

John Rodge – Bass/Bass Guitar

Dave James – Drums

 Sarah Benbow – Vocals.

The band will play a selection of classics & favourites from the American Songbook, all of course in the inimitable style of some of the most professional, seasoned jazz veterans of West Wales.

Keith Little Trio with Jane Williams – 16th April

The Keith Little Swing Trio makes a much postponed return to TenbyJazz, this time with guest vocalist Jane Williams.

There’ll be Swing from the 40s, a touch of Dixieland and some great melodies. Inspired by the Swing Music of Benny Goodman, Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong and the like, the varied repertoire of this lively Band also includes Jump ‘n’ Jive numbers after the  style of Louis Prima.

Jane’s exuberant vocals add a new dimension to the band’s, always polished, performance.

Led by Keith on piano, the band features Gethin Liddington on trumpet, Donnie Joe Sweeney on bass and vocals.

The Cool Jazz Quartet – Sunday 12th March

Swinging mainstream vibes with a hint of West Coast low-key coolness brought to you by the Cool Jazz Quartet.

The band is led by Greg Sterland – tenor and baritone sax, with Jonny Westhorp – guitarMike Kennedy – bass and Alex Goodyear – drums.

Greg and Alex are stalwarts of the burgeoning contemporary Bristol Jazz scene, bringing together modern jazz and bebop (Greg) and traditional and mainstream (Mike).  The guys are joined by Jonny, who adds a strikingly refreshing, individual guitar style to the overall mix.

The band’s repertoire is the American songbook of jazz standards sprinkled with compositions by standout European musicians such as Lars Gullin and Bobby Jespar.
